JetPack Aviation has completed flight testing with the first prototype – P1 – of its Speeder jet powered, VTOL mobility platform. Trials concluded successfully in May. Flight testing began in December 2020, with two-axis tethers securing the platform, progressing through a single-axis tether and culminating in the aircraft flying with just a safety tether connection. The program achieved a series of test points aimed at proving the engine gimbal and articulated exhaust nozzle systems, as well as the flight controller.

53rd WRS, Assigned To The 403rd Wing, Is The Only Unit Of Its Kind In DoD

The Air Force Reserve’s 53rd Weather Reconnaissance Squadron Hurricane Hunters wrapped up their aerial reconnaissance efforts for Tropical Storm Elsa, July 7, after the storm made landfall on the northwest coast of Florida. The 53rd WRS, which is assigned to the 403rd Wing, is the only unit of its kind in the Department of Defense. In coordination with the National Hurricane Center and the chief, Aerial Reconnaissance Coordination All Hurricanes team, the unit flies missions into tropical systems to collect atmospheric data used by forecasters to create more accurate models.

Targeted For Students In Flight Schools Or Pursuing A Career In Aviation

The Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) Foundation has announced an additional scholarship for post secondary students in flight schools or pursuing a career in aviation. First announced on June 18, 2021, the scholarships are developed for Canada's next generation of leaders, and explorers in science and space. The now twenty-five $1,000 scholarships are open to any Canadian youth 25 years of age or younger in post secondary education. They are designed to encourage students in S.T.E.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) studies or flight that could lead to future careers in Aviation or Aerospace.

The Pilot Initiated A Go-Around When The Airplane Was Not Aligned With The Runway

On June 20, 2021, at 1440 Pacific daylight time, a Piper PA-18-135, N2618A, was destroyed when it was involved in an accident near White City, Oregon. The pilot was fatally injured. The airplane was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 personal flight. A friend of the pilot reported that the pilot departed from Bend, Oregon, around 1415, en route to Beagle Sky Ranch Airport (OR96), White City, Oregon, where he was to meet the pilot. The friend reported that he observed the airplane initially enter the pattern on the left downwind for runway 33; however, the pilot initiated a go-around when the airplane was not aligned with the runway.

AD 2021-13-17 Continues To Require The Repetitive Inspections Of The MRB Attachment Pins

The FAA is superseding Airworthiness Directive (AD) 2017-17-01, which applied to certain Airbus Helicopters Model AS332L2 and EC225LP helicopters. AD 2017-17-01 required repetitive inspections of the main rotor blade (MRB) attachment pins. This AD continues to require the repetitive inspections of the MRB attachment pins, and also requires repetitive measurement of the attachment pin chamfer at certain intervals after corrosion removal, as specified in a European Aviation Safety Agency (now European Union Aviation Safety Agency) (EASA) AD, which is incorporated by reference. Movement Area The runways, taxiways, and other areas of an airport/heliport which are utilized for taxiing/hover taxiing, air taxiing, takeoff, and landing of aircraft, exclusive of loading ramps and parking areas.
