In comments submitted this week, NBAA reiterated its support for guidance outlined in an FAA NPRM to develop new standards for noise certification of supersonic aircraft operating in the United States. Emphasizing the need to balance innovation and development of new technologies with protecting the general public and the environment, NBAA applauded the NPRM’s “data-driven approach to setting noise standards specific to particular categories delineated by weight and maximum cruise-speed.

First V-22 Osprey Delivered To Japan

First International Operator Of The Osprey

The United States government has delivered the first Bell Boeing V-22 Osprey to Camp Kisarazu on July 10. The Japan Ground Self Defense Force (JGSDF) is the first operator of the V-22 outside of the U.S. military. “Congratulations to Japan on becoming the first international operator of the Osprey,” said Kurt Fuller, Bell Boeing Program Director.

Pilot Escapes With Minor Injuries

An F-16C Fighting Falcon assigned to the 49th Wing crashed during landing at Holloman Air Force Base at approximately 6 p.m. MDT July 13. The pilot on board the single seat jet successfully ejected, and is currently being treated for minor injuries. The Air Force is having a really tough run of luck... some of it deadly. The crash is the fifth Air Force fighter jet since mid-May. Two of the previous crashes saw the tragic losses of Air Force pilots. It is also the Air Force’s second F-16 crash in just two weeks.

Final Set Of Power Upgrade Spacewalks Upcoming

Two astronauts are concentrating on the final set of power upgrade spacewalks on the International Space Station beginning this week. Meanwhile, their Expedition 63 crewmates continued focusing on biology research to ensure humans stay healthy in space during long-term missions. Flight Engineer Bob Behnken and Commander Chris Cassidy for preparing for a pair of spacewalks to wrap up battery swaps and ready the orbiting lab for a new airlock. The duo collected and organized spacewalk tools then studied their tasks step-by-step on a computer during the afternoon. Fellow NASA astronaut Doug Hurley assisted the pair and installed their spacesuit batteries and metal oxide canisters to remove carbon dioxide

From 2019: Flight Design Debuts New Models At AirVenture

Flight Design introduced its new F-Series airplanes at AirVenture 2019. Flight Design president, Tom Peghiny, told Aero-TV’s Tom Patton that the aircraft will be certified under Part 23 as well as an SLSA. The F-2 will be available with both a Rotax 912 engine and a Seimens electric motor. Next year, the company hopes to have a 4-place F-2 flying behind a Rotax 915 engine.

Multi-Mission Capabilities Shown Off During Recent Exercises

The Northrop Grumman Firebird has recently completed a series of mission focused engagements, including integration and testing of Overwatch Imaging’s TK-9 Earthwatch sensor on its Firebird system. A provider of automated airborne imaging systems for piloted and unmanned aircraft, Overwatch Imaging's TK-9 Earthwatch sensor is equipped with a flexible onboard AI-enabled automatic image processing engine that allows the system to quickly adapt to new roles in new environments such as natural disaster emergency management, border security patrol, or large-scale infrastructure inspection.

LSA Ditches In Gulf of Mexico, Pilot Rescued

The pilot reported that he was conducting a cross country flight and departed the airport with slightly less than 36 gallons of fuel on board. About 1.5 hours into the flight, he noticed that the fuel tank quantities were dropping rapidly. The engine subsequently lost all power, and he set up for a ditching in the Gulf of Mexico. After ditching, the pilot and passenger were picked up by a U.S. Navy helicopter and transported to a local hospital for observation. The airplane eventually sank and was not recovered.

Aircraft Conflict Predicted conflict, within EDST of two aircraft, or between aircraft and airspace. A Red alert is used for conflicts when the predicted minimum separation is 5 nautical miles or less. A Yellow alert is used when the predicted minimum separation is between 5 and approximately 12 nautical miles. A Blue alert is used for conflicts between an aircraft and predefined airspace.
