In a global first, online orders were delivered in Zurich between September 25 and October 13 with the aid of vans & drones.

Mercedes-Benz carried out a unique pilot project to test on-demand delivery of e-commerce orders – and it was a resounding success. On ten days, a total of around 100 flights were made without incident over the city of Zurich. Following the release of an FAA directed study showing that unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) may damage aircraft more than bird strikes during collisions, Capt. Tim Canoll, president of the Air Line Pilots Association, Int’l renewed the union's call for Congress to give the FAA the authority to regulate hobby drones, though the narrative he invokes is not altogether correct nor firmly verified. The Air Force has selected Tyndall Air Force Base, Florida, as the preferred location for hosting a new MQ-9 Reaper Wing with 24 remotely piloted aircraft. Vandenberg AFB, California, is considered a reasonable alternative. The wing will be composed of an operations group with mission control elements as well as a launch and recovery capability, and a maintenance group. "We selected Tyndall Air Force Base because it was the best location to meet the unique requirements of the MQ-9 Reaper," Secretary of the Air Force Heather Wilson said. All this -- and MORE in today's episode of Airborne-Unmanned!!!
