Fatal U/L Crash In Canada May Have Been Fog-Induced

Police: Flying In Fog

"There was thick fog," provincial-police spokeswoman Manon Gaignard reported. "A witness heard a noise around 10 a.m. but couldn't tell where the noise came from because of the fog." That's what authorities in Quebec have to go on so far in the downing of an ultralight near the town of St Felix de Valois.

The witness kept an eye on the fog and eventually spotted part of the aircraft rising above it. The two people on board, an unidentified man and woman, were rushed to a nearby hospital where they later died of their injuries.

It was the second aviation accident to rock Quebec over the weekend. Almost 23,000 power customers lost electricity Saturday after a single-engine Cessna aircraft (type not yet known) crashed into a power line in Repentigny, east of Montreal. The pilot and passenger in that aircraft were injured. Authorities say the Cessna was on a night training mission when it lost power and hit the power lines. The wreckage -- and the survivors -- were found in a ditch on the side of an adjacent road.
