B-29 Doc Returning To Tulsa Air And Space Museum & Planetarium

Bomber’s History Restored Tour Arrives October 18 For Three Days

The B-29 Superfortress “Doc” History Restored Tour will return Tulsa International Airport (KTUL) in Oklahoma, October 18-20, 2024 for a weekend stop at the Tulsa Air and Space Museum.

B-29 Doc will arrive on Friday October 18, and will be available for ground and cockpit tours as well as flight experience rides throughout the weekend. While it is on the ground, visitors can climb up inside the aircraft through the forward bomb bay door to look around, tour the bomb bay, cockpit, and crew compartments of the historic aircraft.

In addition, the dedicated crew that restored the aircraft will be available to meet and ask questions about the processes and efforts involved in bringing the aircraft back to airworthy condition. B-29 Doc is one of 1,644 B-29 Superfortress aircraft built by the Boeing Company in Wichita, Kansas, during World War II, and is one of only two remaining airworthy B-29s flying today.

Josh Wells, B-29 Doc executive director explained, “Tulsa has a rich history of aviation manufacturing that dates back to World War II at the Douglas Aircraft Plant that produced A-24 Dauntless dive bombers, B-24 Liberators, A-26 Invader attack aircraft and B-17 Flying Fortresses helping to deliver the superior air power needed for American and Allied Forces during the war.”

Wells continued, “Any chance we get to bring B-29 Doc into an area with such a storied history of World War II aviation, coupled with a world-class museum like the Tulsa Air and Space Museum, it’s special. We hope to educate and inspire the next generation of aviation lovers, while ensuring the legacy of the Greatest Generation lives on for the future.”
