Countdown To WAI Girls In Aviation Day Underway

Worldwide Outreach Scheduled For October 5, 2019

Women in Aviation International’s network of corporate members, partners and more than 130 chapters, are making their plans for individual events for Girls in Aviation Day 2019. Girls in Aviation Day is truly a worldwide event with activities planned by WAI chapters from Australia to the Netherlands, from India to Botswana. Dozens of Girls in Aviation Day events are planned for the United States.

Individual chapter and corporate members plan their own day’s events, based on varying venues, local WAI members and availability of local resources.

Now in its fifth year, Girls in Aviation Day is designed to introduce and educate girls 8 to 17 years of age on the many career choices and lifestyle possibilities offered by the aviation/aerospace industry.

“When we reach girls as young as eight years old – and sometimes younger – we know we can make an impact in their looking at a career in aviation as something that is possible for them,” says WAI President Dr. Peggy Chabrian. “Most of our girls had not previously considered aviation as a career – and for many, Girls in Aviation Day is the first time they have been able to touch an airplane or even talk to a lady who is a pilot or engineer or maintenance technician or air traffic controller.”

Last year, Girls in Aviation Day was a huge success reaching 15,200 attendees, girls age 8-17, around the world.  On October 13, 2018, 105 chapters and corporate members held 101 separate Girls in Aviation Day events including 10 international chapters, 26 corporate member events, 20 student chapters, and 49 U.S. chapters. International events were held in 15 countries.
