Three Lost In Convair 580 Downing Near LCK

Plane Heading To Mansfield, OH

Three people were killed Monday afternoon when their Convair 580 crashed shortly after takeoff from Rickenbacker Airport (LCK) near Columbus, OH.

WTTE-33 reports there were no witnesses to the accident, which occurred around 12:00 pm local time. The plane impacted in a field near the airport; it appears the plane had just taken off, though some reports say the plane was on approach to land back at the field when it crashed.

The aircraft was operated by Air Tahoma, a cargo feeder airline based at the airport. The company flies regional frieght for FedEx Express.

FAA spokeswoman Elizabeth Isham Cory told the station the 1956 Convair 580 (type shown above) was headed to Mansfield, OH, 63 nautical miles northeast of Rickenbacker.
