Training Further Education For Helicopter Pilots With Latest State-Of-The-Art Simulator Technology
Lufthansa Aviation Training (LAT) and the Academy of the HEMS operator DRF Luftrettung will present their new pilot training and further training program at the HAI Heli-Expo from January 28 to 30, 2020 in Anaheim, California. Beginning in August 2020, a state-of-the-art full flight simulator level D will be available at Lufthansa Aviation Training’s training center in Frankfurt. The simulator is configurable both for the Airbus-helicopter types H135 and H145 and certified by EASA.
Cutting-edge flight simulating technology is combined with the excellence of two strong partners: The competence of LAT as a leading provider for aviation training in the areas of simulator trainings (fixed wing) and human factors, plus DRF Luftrettung's many years of expertise in the HEMS operation and special mission profiles (e.g. night flight, winch rescue operations over sea and mountains) in over 40,000 missions annually.
The joint trade fair presence of LAT and DRF Luftrettung is intended to provide visitors with detailed insights into the advantages of the new full flight simulator (FFS) Level D: The cockpit can be changed to the Airbus H135 and H145 helicopter types. At a third crew member station, Human Helicopter Hoist missions can be trained with the help of virtual reality technology involving the entire crew. Flight procedures can also be simulated at night with night vision equipment, both with “white” and “green” phosphor NVGs. The pilot trainings can be conducted under meteorological conditions and a variety of realistic landing scenarios with moving objects in the landing area as well as different locations, such as airfields or hospitals.
Lufthansa Aviation Training GmbH (LAT) is one of Europe’s leading providers of aviation training for cockpit and cabin crews. In addition to its expertise in simulator training and technical maintenance or training equipment, LAT offers its customers a comprehensive infrastructure at its training locations.
"By investing in our first own helicopter simulator in our training fleet of over 55 full flight simulators, we are opening up to new markets and looking forward to working with DRF Luftrettung in this area. In addition, our largest training center in Frankfurt is ideally located for customers from all over the world. Crews can complete their training here around the clock all year round," said Ola Hansson, Managing Director of Lufthansa Aviation Training.
DRF Luftrettung bundles its experience and its diverse competencies in training and further education in the fields of medicine, flight operations and technology under the umbrella of the Academy. This also includes their "Approved Training Organization". Customers benefit from the professional expertise of DRF Luftrettung's highly qualified type rating instructors who can also be deployed for wet lease trainings if required. They also have extensive experience in winch operation and winch training, in night flying with night vision goggles and in human factors training.
"Based on our more than 40 years of experience in HEMS operations and our expertise in pilot education and training, as well as LAT’s diverse competencies, we were able to jointly develop a comprehensive training offer on the new Airbus H135/H145 full flight simulator. We are proud to be able to present this offer to an international professional audience at the Heli-Expo," said Dr. Peter Huber, Chairman of the Executive Board (COO) at DRF Luftrettung.
