Droneup Announces Collaboration on BVLOS with Iris Automation

Iris Casia G AI to Serve as Basis for In-Flight Aircraft Detection

DroneUp has embarked on a partnership with Iris Automation that will bring the firm’s AI-powered Casia G technology to their autonomous drone delivery platform.

The change will allow DroneUp to maintain a higher level of situational awareness while undergoing drone flights in its delivery areas, using Casia G nodes as a home base to watch the skies for unannounced airspace entries. The unit will act much like a base station, providing a full 360º view of surrounding airspace and meshing with others in the network to provide complete aircraft detection, classification, and alerting. The improved level of awareness will let the DroneUp flight team respond to incoming aircraft and move their drones out of the way before a risk of collision can begin to form. DroneUp will deploy a network of Casia Gs throughout its operational airspace while it navigates often-congested and complex airspace.

“We’re very excited to partner with Iris Automation, whose priorities on innovation and safety align directly with DroneUp’s mission,” said John Vernon, CTO of DroneUp. “The technology behind Casia G for BVLOS has the potential to be a game-changer in demonstrating that delivery in more populated areas can be as convenient and secure as it currently is in rural environments. Through this partnership DroneUp can dramatically scale operations, freed from restrictions.”

“DroneUp’s widespread success in commercializing drone delivery has been amazing to date,” said Iris Automation CEO, Jon Damush. “Through the use of Casia G, DroneUp will be able to remove visual observers - creating a path to more economical scaling of their operations while simultaneously improving safety. Iris is proud to partner with DroneUp in this effort.”
