One Fatally Injured In West Virginia Accident

Aeropro CZ A220 Went Down Monday In A Wooded Area

The pilot of an Aeropro CZ A220 was fatally injured Monday when the aircraft went down in a wooded area in Taylor County, WV. The pilot has been identified by the West Virginia State Police as 67-year-old Dr. Thomas Kaye of Haydenville, MA.

Television station WBOY reports that, according to FAA records, the airplane was registered to Rollinson Light Sport Aircraft of Bloomfield, IN. NTSB investigator Adam Gerhardt said that the flight originated in Indiana and made a refueling stop in north central West Virginia.

The airplane went down at about 1300 local time in a wooded area. A post-impact fire ensued and consumed most of the aircraft. The debris field was described as "highly fragmented" by an NTSB official.

Television station WDTV reports that Kaye was a neurosurgeon with Trinity Health of New England Medical Group. The plane went down about 10 minutes after departing from North Central West Virginia Airport in Clarksburg (KCKB). He reportedly did not declare an emergency prior to the accident.

So far, the NTSB has not identified any witnesses to the accident.

Rollinson is a licenced distributor for the Aerotrek Aeropro line of aircraft.
