Aero-News BOLO: Crews Search For Missing Plane In Oregon

Cub Departed UAO Saturday

The Oregon branch of the Civil Air Patrol is stepping up its search for a Piper Cub-type aircraft that left Aurora State Airport Saturday, but did not return.

CAP officials told the Salem News the pilot, identity unknown but said to be a retired airline pilot, was making a series of local practice flights from UAO when he failed to return to the airport Saturday afternoon.

Crews began the search for the missing plane Sunday morning around the area, located south of Portland.

Seattles KOMO-TV describes the plane as a "new single-engine Piper Cub," indicating it may be either a restored model, or one of several reproductions currently offered. The pilot reportedly took delivery of the plane (type shown above) two months ago.

Search crews are checking local airstrips for any sign of the missing plane.

There has been no cell phone or radio contact with the pilot.
