Dynon Begins AirVenture Announcements With Emergency Glide Feature

SkyView HDX and AF-5000/6000s Get Just a Little Bit Safer

Now, operators of the SkyView HDX will be able to use an Emergency Glide feature to reduce workload and take the guesswork out of a perfect descent.

The feature will be included in the SkyView software 17.1 update, and its equivalent for Advanced Flight Systems AF-5000 and AF-6000 models. Just by holding down the NRST key, the SkyView will engage the autopilot at a pre-programmed best-glide speed while showing the nearest airfield in range. That airport will be given after SkyView runs the numbers for wind and terrain, ensuring that the aircraft isn't sent anywhere that isn't immediately feasible as a landing site. Even better, the SkyView panel will load the airport identifier into the Com radio, with frequencies ready to go with a simple touch of a button to get on with local controllers or traffic. It's notable that the changeover must be manually accepted by the pilot, so any comms on guard or with center won't see interference until the pilot is ready to swap over.

"At Dynon, we are committed to enhancing pilot safety with innovative features. The new Emergency Glide feature simplifies critical decisions and actions during an emergency, providing pilots with the tools they need to focus on flying the aircraft to a safe landing." said Michael Schofield, Director of Marketing for Dynon.

SkyView HDX operators can avail themselves of the 17.1 update, with a corresponding improvement on the way for those using the AF-6000 and AF-5000 autopilots.
