Brewery Makes Bid For Frederick, MD Airport Land

Being Sold After Several Infrastructure Projects Have Been Completed

The city of Frederick, MD has approved a contract with Flying Dog Brewery clearing the way for the purchase of 31 acres near Frederick Airport by the brewer.

The city's Board of Aldermen approved the sale with a unanimous vote. The vote starts a 120-day clock that allows Flying Dog to conduct a feasibility study for its $50 million project.

The city had purchased the land in 2008 for $5.4 million, using the 31 acres to support infrastructure projects at the airport, including a new control tower. The city says those projects are now completed, and it put the land on the market in an effort to offset some of the city's debt.

Flying Dog offered $2.55 million for the property, which is the full asking price and its fair market value, according to an appraiser. It is also the only offer the city has gotten on the property since it was listed last fall.
