West Coast Fires Are The Impetus For Policy Review

The U.S. Forest Service says it is reviewing its policy on night firefighting following this summer's active fire season out west. If approved, the change would allow firefighting helicopters to fly at night. The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors has been pushing for nighttime operations in the wake of those fires.

Find Culminates A Two-Day Search

An aircrew from the Clarksburg Composite Squadron located the wreckage of a twin-engine Piper PA-30 Monday that had been reported missing after it left a Texas airport November 23 for Virginia. The aircrew spotted the Piper about 0940 five miles north of the Rainelle VOR ground station.

Phased Transfer Began In August

Air Force Global Strike Command assumes the U.S. Air Force's Intercontinental Ballistic Missile mission Tuesday. The transfer of the mission is part of a phased approach which began in August to unify all Air Force nuclear-capable assets under one command, officials said.

"I must regrettably inform you that, absent a responsive set of changes in the final RFP, Northrop Grumman has determined it cannot submit a bid to the Department for the KC-X program." Source: Northrop Grumman CEO Wes Bush.

Also known as an occlusion, it is a complex front formed when a cold front overtakes a warm front. It develops when three thermally different air masses conflict. The type of frontal boundary they create depends on the manner in which they meet.
