Savvy Aviation Releases GADFLY AI-Driven Engine Analysis

Cutting-Edge Anomaly Detection Tool Strengthens Human Diagnostics

Savvy Aviation, a prominent piston engine analysis and maintenance provider, announced the release of its new cutting-edge anomaly detection tool called GADFLY, that uses AI to support and augment its expert human-led maintenance and diagnostics team.

GadFly is designed to assist analysts identify unusual engine behavior more quickly and accurately to enhance the company’s expert analysis it is known for.

Currently in use on normally-aspirated Cirrus SR22 aircraft, GadFly examines every flight and flags any anomalies in engine and performance data for further review. What sets GadFly apart is that it is not a fully autonomous AI system: Each flight that gets flagged by GadFly is reviewed by Savvy’s experienced team of analysts prior to any findings being shared with the aircraft owner.

Mike Busch, CEO and Founder of Savvy said, “About 15,000 new flights are uploaded to the Savvy platform every week, so obviously we can't look at all of them. In the past, our analysts only looked at flights that our clients asked us to review. Now with GADfly, we can look at every flight that the AI suggests we look at, and alert clients to issues they didn't know they had.”

Joe Godfrey, Director of Analysis at Savvy Aviation noted, “This is not a ‘set it and forget it’ AI. GadFly gives us a heads-up, but our experienced A&Ps are still in the loop. It’s a powerful tool in our diagnostic toolkit to help keep our clients flying safely.”

GadFly simply adds another set of “eyes” that magnifies human expertise but not replacing it. It assists Savvy’s analysts identify flight data patterns or anomalies that may otherwise go unnoticed. It does not compromise the personal and thoughtful analysis clients expect from the Savvy team. Savvy is developing GadFly for additional aircraft models with the goal of offering the hybrid human-AI diagnostic approach to the broader general aviation community.
