Pratt & Whitney Canada To Power New Learjet 85

All-Composite Bizjet Will Sport PW307B Turbofans

Pratt & Whitney Canada’s PW307B engine has been selected by Bombardier Aerospace to power the all-new composite Learjet 85 midsize business jet. The PW307B turbofan engine, rated in the 6,000-pound-thrust class, is the newest member of the increasingly popular PW300 family.

The new-generation engine is designed to deliver superior performance, high durability and low operating economics, with significantly lower emission and noise levels. It also offers high dispatch reliability and easy maintenance.

"We aim to redefine the midsize category with the all-new Learjet 85 aircraft by offering customers superior performance, an extraordinary cabin and exceptional value," said David Coleal, vice-president and general manager, Learjet. "The PW307B is the perfect match for the Learjet 85, bringing some of the most advanced, greener engine technologies, together with P&WC’s trademark dependability."

The PW307B engine features the company’s TALON advanced combustor technology, which significantly outperforms ICAO standards by over 30 per cent for nitrous oxide emissions. The engine is designed for low noise and also meets Zurich 5 requirements for zero surcharge fees.

"The new Learjet 85 jet and PW307B engine offer a winning combination that will deliver exceptional value to customers," said Claude Lachapelle, vice president of Business Aviation at P&WC. "This is the second Learjet and our tenth engine program with Bombardier, which underscores our successful collaboration in bringing great products to market."

In addition to the advanced technologies built into the PW307B, the engine incorporates over 6.5 million hours of PW300 family flying experience. Eight engine models currently make up the PW300 family, powering some 1,000 aircraft in 50 countries.

Unveiled at NBAA 2007 and formally introduced in January, the LearJet 85 will be the first-ever all-composite business jet from Bombardier. The first three prototype aircraft will be built by Grob Aerospace in Germany.
