Savvy Aviator Maintenance Seminars Coming Up

Next One Scheduled for February 12-13th in Santa Maria, CA

Our good friend, Mike Busch, (yeah, the guy  who started AvWeb... though we don't hold that against him... much -- grin) has been doing a highly regarded series of seminars for aircraft owners that we hear some very good things about. His aims are simple... take the "black-magic" and mystery out of aircraft ownership... especially when it comes to maintenance issues. Over the course of two days, Mike personally teaches a course that helps aircraft owners and operators get more bang for their flying buck... and from a guy who KNOWS of what he speaks.

Mike says that, "My goal in creating this seminar is to help aircraft owners feel more maintenance-savvy, to empower them to take control of the maintenance of their aircraft, to participate meaningfully in maintenance decisions and troubleshooting."

Seminar Topics include:
  • How to get top-notch maintenance without going broke in the process
  • The real deal on annual inspections and owner-assisted annuals
  • What to do if you feel a shop or mechanic "has you over a barrel"
  • How to troubleshoot problems before squawking them
  • Techniques for troubleshooting powerplant and electrical malfunctions
  • Tips for dealing with intermittent failures
  • A half-dozen ways to save on costly aircraft parts
  • Coping with mechanical problems away from home
  • What tools and spare parts to carry in the aircraft
  • The pros, cons and legalities of do-it-yourself preventive maintenance
  • Where to go at TBO: factory remans vs. custom overhauls
  • Navigating the jug jungle: factory vs. Millennium vs. ECI, steel vs. nickel vs. chrome
  • Saving money on prop, accessory and instrument overhauls

Mike also notes that, "The seminar focuses on teaching aircraft owners how to get better maintenance while spending less money, and it's already saved the owners who went through the program in 2004 (about 100 of them) a TON of money.  It teaches owners how to be wiser, more assertive, more empowered, and more decisive when it comes to managing the maintenance of their aircraft -- a concept I call 'owner-in-command.' I don't think anyone has offered anything like it before."

Mike is an aviation writer, teacher, pilot and A&P mechanic... as well as being a longtime tech rep for the Cessna Pilots Association, and an aircraft owner for 35 years. He has four decades of aviation experience. We recommend him highly, as he is an unusually expert flyer with an excellent command of what it takes to get complex concepts across to aviators.

The next seminar is coming up, February 12-13th in Santa Maria, CA, and the next in Las Vegas, March 6-7. A number of others are planned throughout the remainder of 2005.
