ANN's 'Who's Who' At Oshkosh: Mike Turner

Introducing Staff, Stringers, Videographers, And People Who Make It All Work

Anyone who's ever been to Oshkosh knows that there are hundreds of events and activities as well as tens of thousands of people that descend (some quite literally) on Wittman Regional Airport in mid-summer. While we have a very hard-working and dedicated staff, ANN could not provide you with the extensive information we do without the help of some equally ... some might say more ... dedicated volunteers who give a week of their time to make sure you have the best possible coverage of the show. As we lead up to this year's edition of AirVenture, we'll be introducing you to the people that make all of that possible.

Marketing Guru Mike Turner

Mike is a marketing executive with over 30 years’ experience in studying and exploiting markets. Mike attended the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he earned two undergraduate degrees. Mike has extensive experience in a wide range of markets including aerospace, medical, industrial, telecommunications and electronics.

In 1986 he became the Western Regional Sales Manager for the Rapidsyn Division of American Precision Industries.  Eighteen months later he was promoted to National Sales and Marketing Manager.

For the next eight years he was responsible for managing large accounts such as Beckman Coulter, American Microscan, G.E. Aerospace, Ball Aerospace and Lockheed Martin.

The motion control products that were sold to these industries were custom designed, highly value added products. These included hand-held surgical devices, blood/immunoassay devices and motors built for satellites (UARS, COSTAR – Hubble repair) and manned spacecraft (shuttle camera upgrade and ISS ATCP).

He created objective, statistics based methods for measuring territory performance, as well as portfolio management of the customer base and A/B testing of advertising and PR resulting in improved rep performance and improved returns on ad dollars.

In 1994 he became Marketing Manager for Comair Rotron, where his duties included market research into telecommunication, medical, computer peripherals, electronic and automotive markets.  He successfully identified and introduced business to new markets (medical-CPAP and automotive).

He was responsible for contract negotiations, advertising, public relations, website development, EDI coordination, business metrics and business planning.

He created a data based decision making process that streamlined the quoting process and further refined the business planning process by applying seasonal indices to the reported stats resulting in more accurate predictions of market behavior, and most importantly, market deviations.

In 2003, Mike started BusinessKM, a market intelligence company serving primarily the manufacturing markets. BusinessKM produced market research and analysis reports to help clients better understand their markets and the ways they can exploit them.
