Airborne-Oshkosh Day 4 Redux: Huerta Evades, Eclipse Serves Vets, WAI Grows

Oshkosh Day Four Coverage -- Part Four Of Five Part Hightower Interview, Part 145 Chat With AEA's Ric Peri

Acting FAA Administrator Michael Huerta made his first official appearance in the top job on Thursday, making a speech at Forum Pavillion 7 and answering questions from the audience.

While the administrator was well received, the forum was not particularly well attended, with only about a third of the seats in the pavillion filled. Huerta’s speech sounded familiar themes of safety and the promise of NextGen and ADS-B. Many of his answers to questions were short on specifics, though questions that were deferred to staffers who had traveled with Huerta to Wisconsin concerning Blue Ash Airport in Cincinnati and one about FAA written exams got more concrete responses.

An E500 jet donated to the Veterans Airlift Command was presented today at the Eclipse booth near Phillips 66 Plaza. On hand to make the presentation was Retired Air Force General Richard Meyers, former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. The jet was donated by Helen and Walt Illsley of San Rafael, CA.

Women in Aviation International held a news conference this morning to announce a reprise of the “Take Your Daughter the the Conference Day” at their annual convention being held in Nashville, Tennessee next March. WAI president Dr. Peggy Chabrian also signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Learning For Life stating the organizations will work together to promote aviation careers among youth from kindergarten through high school.
