Greek Airline Purchases 8 More Airliners to Support Network Growth
AEGEAN, Greece’s flagship carrier, has placed an additional order for eight Airbus A321neo aircraft, bringing its total direct orderbook with Airbus to 60. More than half of these have already been delivered, allowing the airline to support its growing network.

“The expansion of our investment plan with the additional order of eight Airbus A321neo aircraft is essential for achieving our growth objectives and further enhancing the competitiveness of our operations,” explained Dimitris Gerogiannis, CEO of AEGEAN. “It is also clear that we have a strong preference for the larger-capacity and extended-range version offered by the A321neo type, which will soon represent two-thirds of our Airbus fleet.”
The A321neo is the largest aircraft in the Airbus A320neo family and is known for being the largest and most fuel-efficient sibling. Equipped with new-generation engines and Sharklets, the A321neo claims to reduce fuel consumption and CO? emissions by more than 20% compared to older-generation aircraft.
Another key selling point is that the A321neo, like many Airbus creations, is certified to operate with up to 50% Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). By 2030, however, Airbus hopes to increase that capability to 100%.

“We are delighted that AEGEAN has once again chosen the fuel-efficient A321neo. This decision underscores AEGEAN's commitment to operational excellence and enhancing the passenger experience,” stated Benoit de Saint-Exupery, Airbus’s EVP of commercial aircraft sales. “We value our collaboration with the largest Greek airline and look forward to continuing our partnership, supporting their growth plans within Europe and beyond.”
AEGEAN’s fleet modernization began with a $5 billion order in 2018 for up to 42 A320neo family aircraft, the largest private investment in Greece at the time. The airline maintains a young fleet with strict maintenance standards, supported by its in-house technical department. AEGEAN’s fleet currently includes A320neo and A321neo models, along with earlier-generation A320s and A321s, as well as ATR turboprops for regional operations.
