Rolls Royce 10X Begins Flight Test Program

Rolls-Royce Has Commenced Testing of It's 10X Engine for Dassault Falcon 10X

Rolls-Royce has initiated the flight test campaign for its latest aviation engine, the Pearl 10X, aboard the company's dedicated Boeing 747 flying testbed. This engine has been chosen by Dassault to power its new flagship aircraft, the Falcon 10X, exclusively.

The commencement of flight testing marks a significant milestone for the Pearl 10X program and for Rolls-Royce as it aims to expand its presence in the business aviation market. The Pearl 10X is the latest addition to the cutting-edge Pearl engine family and is the first Rolls-Royce engine to be featured in a Dassault business jet. The selection of the Pearl 10X by the French OEM for its premier product further solidifies Rolls-Royce's position as a leading engine producer in the business aviation sector.

Located in Tucson, Arizona, USA, pilots and flight test engineers will evaluate the engine in the upcoming months. The flight test program will encompass various checks on engine performance and handling at different speeds and altitudes, in-flight relights, assessments of the nacelle's anti-icing system, and fan vibration tests at various altitudes.

To date, the ground development program has included extensive testing of the new ultra-low emissions ALM combustor, which is compatible with 100% Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), and the new accessory gearbox, which allows for increased additional power extraction. The engine, which exceeded its target thrust levels during the very first test run, will be the most potent business aviation engine in the Rolls-Royce portfolio.

Philipp Zeller, Senior Vice President of Dassault, Business Aviation, Rolls-Royce, stated, "We are thrilled to embark on this crucial next phase of the engine development program with the commencement of our flight test campaign. All the tests completed thus far affirm the engine's reliability and demonstrate that it will fulfill the performance requirements to power Dassault's flagship, the Falcon 10X."

The program has successfully accumulated over 2,300 testing hours.

The Pearl 10X features the Advance2 engine core, an efficient core that combines with a high-performance low-pressure system, resulting in an unparalleled thrust of more than 18,000lb. The Pearl 10X offers a 5% increase in efficiency while delivering exceptional low noise and emissions performance. The engine provides a combination of power and efficiency, enabling operators to have premium airport accessibility and fly ultra-long-range flights--all close to the speed of sound.
