ACI-NA Statement On Nomination Of Alan D. Bersin For CBP Commissioner

"Aviation Will Benefit" With Bersin As Commissioner

President Barack Obama has nominated Alan D. Bersin to be the Commissioner of the Customs and Border Protection division of the Department of Homeland Security. Bersin currently serves as DHS Assistant Secretary for International Affairs and Special Representative for Border Affairs.

As CBP Commissioner, Bersin will lead DHS efforts to secure America’s borders while overseeing the enforcement of immigration, customs and drug laws. He will manage more than 57,000 CBP employees working to secure U.S. land and maritime borders.

Airports Council International-North America (ACI-NA) President Greg Principato issued the following statement in response to the nomination:

"Aviation will benefit from Alan Bersin's executive experience and extensive careers in aviation, homeland security and law enforcement as we continue to address the critical issues related to international travel and trade. We believe this experience will give him insights into the special issues affecting aviation. The airport industry and ACI-NA look forward to working with him to facilitate the movement of international air passengers and cargo, while maintaining security."
