Greenville Tech To Host Aircraft Programs Open House And Skills Contest

Aero Skills Tournament To Be Held October 15

On Saturday, October 15, 2016, individuals will compete to claim the title of “Top Gun” of aircraft structures. A nationwide search is underway, and winners will advance to the nationals and get the chance for a share of the $15,000 purse. Greenville was chosen for the second round of competitions.

Aero Skills is a competition based on industry practices, set in an audience environment so that the community at large can have a chance to see techs demonstrating their skills, hear about the numerous career options the aerospace industry has to offer and to tour an aviation training school to see first-hand what it is all about. Industry representatives will be on hand to discuss employment opportunities in the Upstate of S.C.

“The shortage of people trained to work in the aviation industry is a real problem and it is expected to get much worse. This, combined with the forecasted growth in our industry, is the main reason we are traveling the country to help raise awareness, create excitement, and attract potential students to these careers,” stated Jay Logie, Chief Technical Officer and Founder of Aircraft Technologies Group (ATG).

“At 1 p.m. the public is invited to watch students and professionals battle against the clock, and each other, for prize money, bragging rights and to have a shot at going to the Aero Skills National Championship,” stated Carl Washburn, Greenville Technical College (GTC) Aviation Department Head. “Parents and students interested in careers in the aerospace and aviation industry will want to come early and attend the Open House that starts at 11 am,” added Washburn.

In addition to the Aero Skills Tournament, ATG has developed Aviation NETWorX which provides a platform for aircraft maintenance, manufacturing and operations companies to find skilled workers. These programs are designed to grow this industry's skilled workforce and more effectively connect people with trade schools and employment, as well as assist companies in finding employees which works out for everyone’s benefit.
