Eighteen Fatally Injured In Accident In Nepal

Older-Model Twin Otter Was Carrying Tourists

A 40-year-old Twin Otter with 18 passengers and crew on board has gone down in Nepal, resulting in the fatal injury of all on board.

The airplane was operated by the state-owned Nepal Airlines Corporation. The Times of India reports that the plane was carrying tourists from Pokhara to Jumla in a remote area of western Nepal in poor weather conditions Sunday. The weather hampered search operations Sunday, and the wreckage of the airplane was discovered Monday.

The wreckage was found in the Arghakanchi district about 200 miles west of Kathmandu. The accident scene was located using a cell phone signal, but many of the remains of the passengers were reported to be "unrecognizable."

Contact with the airplane was lost about an hour into its flight, which reportedly began at 12:43 pm local time.
