Hungary Welcomes First C-390 Millennium

Aircraft Contains World’s First Roll-On/Roll-Off ICU

Embraer recently delivered the first C-390 Millennium to the Hungarian Air Force. The multi-mission aircraft will be the first in the world to feature a roll-on/roll-off Intensive Care Unit, equipping it to perform humanitarian and medical evacuation Missions.

The C-390 is fully compliant with NATO requirements, ensuring that it meets the necessary hardware, avionics, and communications standards. It is designed to support a wide array of military and civilian missions, the aircraft can handle tasks such as medevac, support, search and rescue, cargo and troop transport, precision airdrops, paratrooper operations, and Air-to-Air Refueling (AAR).

“The arrival of this aircraft represents a real milestone for the Hungarian Air Force as it will give the Hungarian Defence Forces unprecedented capabilities in military air transport,” stated Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky, the Hungarian Minister of Defence. “It is in Hungary's security interest to have strong, well-equipped, modern defense forces, and we are working on that. Embraer is an excellent partner in this”

The medium-size, twin-engine C-390 is capable of carrying a payload of up to 26 tons. It can maintain speeds upwards of 470 knots, making it faster and more efficient than other military transport aircraft in its category. It is capable of operating on temporary or unpaved runway surfaces depending on mission needs. Additionally, the KC-390 variation’s AAR capabilities allow it to serve both as a tanker and a receiver.

Since its debut with the Brazilian Air Force in 2019, and later with the Portuguese Air Force in 2023, the C-390 has amassed over 14,000 flight hours with a 99% mission completion rate.

“This aircraft delivers an unbeatable combination of performance, flexibility, and reduced life cycle costs, making it the airlift of choice in Europe”, noted Bosco da Costa Junior, President and CEO of Embraer Defense & Security. “We are confident that the C-390 will add important capabilities to Hungary and we look forward to supporting the aircraft’s entry into service.”
