Jim Abrahams, part of the comedy team who made some pretty funny laugh-inducing – and some intentionally groan-inducing – movies in the 1980s and 90s including Airplane!, passed away November 26 at his home in Santa Monica, California. He was 80 years of age. Along with the Zucker brothers David and Jerry, the writing-directing-producing team of Zucker-Abrahams-Zucker, often referred to as “ZAZ,” started in 1977 with the less well known The Kentucky Fried Movie. But then they hit the jackpot in 1980 with Airplane!, a shameless parody of 1970s disaster flicks...

Pilot Executed A Forced Landing On To A Road, During Which The Airplane Struck A Power Line

Analysis: While descending in preparation to fly a visual approach, the pilot lowered the landing gear and contacted the tower controller for landing clearance. During the controller’s response, the pilot reported hearing a “pop” and observed the avionics display screens lose power. A few seconds later, he observed that both engines had lost power. The pilot executed a forced landing on to a road, during which the airplane struck a power line in the descent, and after touchdown, two road signs, which resulted in substantial damage to the right wing.

Estimated (EST) When used in NOTAMs “EST” is a contraction that is used by the issuing authority only when the condition is expected to return to service prior to the expiration time. Using “EST” lets the user know that this NOTAM has the possibility of returning to service earlier than the expiration time.
