New Features Address Two Primary Customer Complaints

DJI recently launched a new update to its $199 Neo drone, addressing the two most common customer complaints. The lightweight device made its debut on September 5. The DJI Neo is a compact UAS designed for personal photo and video applications. The DJI Neo is a compact UAS designed for personal photo and video applications. It weighs less than 5 ounces and can take off “from the palm of the hand,” the manufacturer reported. It has a max flight time of 18 minutes and shoots 4k, ultra-stabilized footage. The Neo also utilizes enclosed propellers to protect itself and its surroundings from damage.

Aeroflot A320 Pays €460,000 To Leave Munich Airport

Landed After Airspace Closed To Russian Aircraft

In an apparent case of poor timing, or poor planning, an Aeroflot Airbus A320 was finally able to depart the Munich International Airport (ICAO: EDDM) in June 2024, 834 days after it landed shortly after Russia invaded Ukraine. But only after a parking fee of €460,000 (about $493,000) had been paid. Shortly after the invasion on February 24, 2022, German and all European airspace was closed to Russian aircraft but the Aeroflot flight arrived in Munich on February 27 from St Petersburg. Parking fees for the Airbus ranged between 340 and 560 Euros per day.

Sikorsky and Rain Showcase Aircraft’s Ability to Find and Extinguish Fires

Sikorsky and Rain recently demonstrated the fire fighting capabilities of an autonomous UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter. During the test, the rotorcraft was commanded to take off, locate and determine the size of a fire, then drop water on the site to extinguish the flames. The demonstration was hosted on October 29 at the Sikorsky Headquarters in Stratford, Connecticut.

Sweden’s Ministry of Defense recently announced that it will be making the Embraer C-390 Millennium its new military transport aircraft. This marks the 6th European nation to select the aircraft for cargo operations and the first C-390 purchase in Northern Europe. Permits Aircraft to Take Off With Minor Wing Frost at Pilot Discretion

The FAA has granted Allegiant Air an exemption to take off with its Boeing 737 MAX 8-200 aircraft even if there is icing on a specific part of the wing. The filing was submitted on November 5 and made public a day later. The FAA’s decision took input from Boeing’s aerodynamic analysis and existing manuals. Allegiant Air’s exemption request explained that frost tends to form on this area of the wing even in non-icing conditions.

On October 20, 2024, about 1600 eastern daylight time, an experimental amateur-built Lancair 360, N510G, was substantially damaged when it was involved in an accident in Cross City, Florida.
