On 02 October 2019, seven people perished when a World War II-era Boeing B17 Flying Fortress dubbed Nine-O-Nine went down minutes after departing Windsor Locks, Connecticut’s Bradley International Airport (BDL). At the time of the accident, the aircraft—then participating in the Wings of Freedom Tour—was carrying ten passengers. Aerospace titan Boeing has agreed to pay $8.1-million to settle federal allegations setting forth the company submitted false claims and made false statements pertaining to the construction of V-22 Osprey tilt-rotor aircraft the Arlington, Virginia-based company builds for the U.S. Navy.

FAA Issues NOTAM Warning of GPS Singal Spoofing

Since 15 September 2023, deceptive GPS signals fraudulently transmitted from the ground have coerced upwards of twenty commercial or business aircraft overlying Iran to deviate from their planned routes. Agency Approves Gogo 5G on Bombardier Challenger 300 Series

Skyservice Business Aviation, in partnership with Gogo Business Aviation has received Supplemental Type Certification (STC) approval from Transport Canada for Gogo’s 5G system aboard Bombardier Challenger 300 series aircraft. The comprehensive Transport Canada Civil Aviation (TCCA) STC is available to Challenger 300 operators opting to retrofit their aircraft with Gogo’s AVANCE L5 and the full Gogo 5G provisional kit. U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) STC approval of the Gogo 5G kit is expected presently.

Availing itself of the plentiful attendees and enthusiasm on hand at the German National Aviation Conference, Airbus Helicopters unveiled the PioneerLab, a new twin-engine technology demonstrator based on the consortium’s popular H145 helicopter. The National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) welcomed congressional passage of legislation to temporarily fund all U.S. federal agencies and extend authorization for Federal Aviation Administration operations. The legislation funds the federal government for 47-days, through 17 November 2023, and provides a three-month extension, through 31 December, on the multi-year FAA reauthorization bill passed by Congress in 2018.

On September 2, 2023, at 2218 eastern daylight time, a Cirrus SR20, N420PB, was destroyed when it was involved in an accident near Toms River, New Jersey. The student pilot was fatally injured. The airplane was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 solo instructional flight. Radar Contact Lost Used by ATC to inform a pilot that the surveillance data used to determine the aircraft's position is no longer being received, or is no longer reliable and radar service is no longer being provided. The loss may be attributed to several factors including the aircraft merging with weather or ground clutter, the aircraft operating below radar line of sight coverage, the aircraft entering an area of poor radar return, failure of the aircraft's equipment, or failure of the surveillance equipment.
