Airborne-Unmanned 07.02.19: NTSB UAV Use, NDDOT Waiver, FT Aviator Controller

Also: Reg'l UAS Workshops, XAG New Ag Drone, FlightWave’s Edge UAS, UAS System Facility At KHUM

A video package supplied to the media by the NTSB shows drones working aggressively to provide data, and high-resolution imagery to the agency charged with pondering a recent aviation tragedy... the loss of 10 people in a Beech Super King Air 350 lost shortly after takeoff in Addison, TX.

NTSB staffers are shown, prominently, flying a survey pattern over the structure which, tragically, became the final resting place for the KingAir, and quite a few shots of the drone in action as well were featured as well as the footage that resulted. The plane impacted an empty hangar as it was departing the airport at about 0900 local time, Sunday. A post-impact fire ensued. The North Dakota Department of Transportation (NDDOT) has received a four-year waiver from the FAA to operate UAS over people. This is the first time a North Dakota state agency has received a waiver to routinely conduct UAS operations over people using a drone – in this case a DJI Mavic 2 series equipped with a ParaZero SafeAir parachute recovery system. FAA approved the waiver and UAS operations over people as part of North Dakota’s (UAS) Integration Pilot Program (IPP). Drone pilots, from commercial experts to novices, can now fly with greater ease, precision and confidence, with Fluidity Tech's FT Aviator. The FT Aviator is currently compatible with nearly all DJI drones and is available now for $299 on the Fluidity website. The price will go up to its ESP of $449 on July 1, 2019. Fluidity's uniquely-designed drone controller intuitively unlocks the human potential for drone flight with a more natural and exacting way of piloting. Traditional gaming-style, two-thumbed controllers are harder to master, and make it more difficult to obtain quality imagery while flying in dynamic, unscripted environments. All this -- and MORE in today's episode of Airborne-Unmanned!!!
