Volunteer Pilots To Be Honored At Oshkosh

EAA Announces Public Benefit Flying Day

The Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) in cooperation with Air Care Alliance (ACA) is working to raise visibility for public flying and promote pilot volunteerism by hosting Public Benefit Flying Day at this year’s EAA AirVenture in Oshkosh.

The event, which honors aviators who participate in any type of public benefit flying, will take place on Friday, July 29.

Every year, thousands of volunteer pilots provide free flights for a variety of humanitarian purposes. These individuals donate their time, skill, aircraft, and all flight expenses to provide patients access to distant medical care, relocate endangered animals, help veterans get home, assist with disaster relief efforts, provide conservation support, and much more. 

The ACA is an umbrella group comprising more than 50 volunteer pilot organizations nationwide. Members include: Pilots N Paws, a non-profit engaged in the transportation of animals requiring rescue, shelter, and adoption; Operation Airdrop, a Texas based non-profit that organizes general aviation assets in the aftermath of a natural disasters; SouthWings, an Asheville, North Carolina non-profit that advocates for the restoration and protection of ecosystems across the Southeastern U.S.; and STEM Flights, a national nonprofit that seeks to promote interest in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) by connecting middle and high school students with volunteer pilot mentors.  

EAA’s Public Benefit Flying Day honors the selfless acts of these pilots and organizations and all who participate in any type of public benefit flying.

Volunteer pilots attending the AirVenture 2022 are invited to meet in the Vintage HQ area at 10:00 on Friday, 29 July 2022 for a group photo. Participants affiliated with a public benefit flying organization are encouraged to wear their organization's apparel for the group photo. 

Preferred seating for that evening’s programs at Theater in the Woods is being offered for people that arrive wearing their public benefit flying shirts.
