Washington State House Passes Tax Refund Bill For Aerospace Company

Consideration By The State Senate Next For The Legislation

The House of Representatives in the Washington State Legislature has passed a bill that would make a sale tax refund available to an airplane maintenance company that is looking to build a facility at Boeing Field.

The company is Gateway USA, which wants to build the facility. The sales tax refund is contingent on the company creating at least 100 high-paying jobs, according to a report in the Seattle Times.

The sponsor of the bill ... Rep. Larry Springer (D) ... said that without the exemption, the company would likely build its plant in Oregon, where there is no sales tax.

To get the exemption, those 100 jobs would have to be created within four years of the facility's opening, and pay an average salary of $80,000 per year.

The bill now goes to the state senate for consideration.
