No One Seriously Injured When Plane Hits Car

Pilot Admitted He Was Trying To Fly Close To The Vehicle

The two people involved in this incident probably thought it sounded like a really good idea when it was hatched, but like so many such ideas, well ... lets just say it's all good fun until the airplane hits the car. The unidentified pilot of a small airplane and the driver of a car in Nevada both escaped serious injury when the plane struck the car with its landing gear.

The Las Vegas Review Journal reported that the driver of the car did suffer non-life-threatening head injuries, and that the top of the car and its windshield were badly damaged in the collision.

Nye County Sheriff Tony DeMeo said the pilot and the driver know each other. The pilot admitted he had been trying to fly close to the car when the accident occurred. DeMeo didn't offer any other details about the relationship between the two.

FAA spokesman Ian Gregor said the FAR's stipulate that pilots are to maintain 500 feet of clearance from any building, person, or vehicle. There was no report on damage to the airplane, and it is not clear what action, if any, the FAA will take against the pilot.
