An Airplane Impacted A Medical Building In CA

Federal investigators say two adults and two children were fatally injured Thursday night when a Mooney M20 went down and impacted a medical building in Watsonville, CA.

The building was unoccupied at the time of the accident. All four people were removed from the wreckage of the airplane after it was pulled from the building. The names of those killed have not been released.

FAA spokeswoman Lynn Lunsford said the 1974 Mooney departed from Watsonville Municipal Airport (KWVI) about 7:30. Witnesses told the Associated Press that the plane attempted to clear a fog bank after takeoff, and that the pilot appeared to be "too steep, too slow."

The aircraft went down in a parking lot at the Watsonville Community Hospital and skidded 50 to 75 yards before impacting the building, according to local police.

The NTSB has assigned Michael Huhn as the lead investigator for the accident.
