Aleta's story, from 2007, with Brigadier General McGee (though his promotion to BGen came years after this story) is particularly poignant... because even though this great man has now gone west, the lessons he left us

Washington Airport Installing State’s Largest Solar Array

Energy Generated Will Offset Large Portion of Airport’s Utility Cost

Washington Municipal Airport (KAWO) in Arlington, Washington, is partnering with Phoenix, Arizona,-based Veregy to design and install a state-of-the-art series of solar arrays that will generate about 145,000 kWh of electricity annually. The project features a combination of rooftop solar arrays on the airport’s terminal building as well as solar-covered car canopies that will produce 87.5 kW of DC power beginning July 8, 2024. The cost of the project is about $668,000, of which $250,000 came from a Washington State Department of Transportation aviation grant. Another 30% reduction of the project cost will be realized through energy investment tax credits fr

Updated: NASA Contracts SpaceX to Build ISS Deorbit Vehicle

Doesn't Seem Right -- Watery Grave Planned for 30-Year Old Station

SpaceX has won the NASA contract to build the vehicle that will bring the International Space Station (ISS) out of orbit and to its resting place on the seafloor in a remote ocean location. The deorbit vehicle contract is worth about $843 million for Elon Musk’s SpaceX. NASA will operate the mission using SpaceX’s technology, it said. The current contract does not include the cost of launching the vehicle, and the separate contract for that will potentially go to SpaceX as well. The first structural sections of the ISS were launched into a 250-mile orbit above the Earth in 1998. Some areas like core power sections and crew cabins were designed with a lifespan

One of the many unique airplanes at AirVenture 2018 was a 1/3-scale B-17 bomber built by Jack Bally, who talked about the 17-year project with Aero-News at the show last summer. Bally said that the idea was born over "too much beer one night with a bunch of buddies" as they talked about what kind of airplane they could build that would be the only one of its kind. They settled on the B-17, because as far as they knew, there were no flying 4-engine scale models WWII
