AD: Airbus SAS Airplanes

AD NUMBER: 2019-15-02

PRODUCT: All Airbus SAS Model A321-251N, A321-252N, A321-253N, A321-271N, A321-272N, A321-251NX, A321-252NX, A321-253NX, A321-271NX, and A321-272NX airplanes.

ACTION: Final rule; request for comments.

SUMMARY: This AD was prompted by analysis of the behavior of the elevator aileron computer (ELAC) L102 that revealed that excessive pitch attitude can occur in certain conditions and during specific maneuvers.

This AD requires revising the airplane flight manual (AFM) to incorporate updated procedures and operational limitations, as specified in a European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) AD, which is incorporated by reference.

DATES: This AD becomes effective September 6, 2019. Comments must be received by October 7, 2019.

COST: The FAA estimates that this AD affects 35 airplanes of U.S. registry. Operators may incur the following costs in order to comply with this AD:

  • Labor: 1 work-hour × $85 per hour = $85 per aircraft.
