Glowing Necklace Helps Air Crew Locate Missing Girl

Five-Year-Old Had Wandered Away From Family Campsite

Here's one from the "pilots and aircraft doing good" files. A five-year-old girl who had wandered away from her family's campsite in northern California was located by a helicopter SAR team in part because of her glow-in-the-dark necklace.

The family was camping in Huddart Park in San Mateo county when the girl became separated from her parents. They called 911 about 2000 PDT when they were unable to locate her on their own.

Television Station KNTV reports  that a CHP helicopter crew located the girl about 2330 PDT in a gorge about a mile from where the family was camping. The pilot said the glowstick necklace and a flashlight the girl was carrying helped them spot her from the air. She was returned to her family cold and scared, but unhurt.
