Air Berlin Pilot Gets Creative On Final Flight

Airplane With 200 Passengers On Board Executed A Possibly-Planned 'Go Around'

On the last Air Berlin flight to arrive in Germany from the U.S., the pulled a stunt that may well land him or her in hot water with German authorities.

Air Berlin filed for bankruptcy earlier in August, and the flight was the last transatlantic trip for the carrier As the plane approached Dusseldorf Airport Monday, the plane appeared to be too high. Then, it made a low pass over the runway before banking hard to the left, curving around the terminal and climbing back into the pattern.

Of course, there was a video of the stunt recorded and posted to social media. This one happened to be shot from the tower.

The German newspaper The Local reports that German aviation authorities (LBA) are looking into the incident, and Air Berlin released a statement saying that it "fully supports" the LBA in its work.

In the statement, Air Berlin said that the pilot of the aircraft had been given permission to execute a left turn if it was necessary to abort the landing.

The plane circled around and landed normally. The Local reports that not a single passenger made a complaint about the extra time in the air.
