Classic Aero-TV: Keeping History Alive-Brian Curry's Remarkable R/C Collection

From 2016 (YouTube Edition): No Kidding.... This Is Electro-Nostalgia At Its Best!

While at the AMA Expo 2016, ANN CEO and Editor-In-Chief, Jim Campbell, came across a real “blast from the past.”

Jim met up with Brian Curry, the owner of “Memories From the Past,” and Jim re-lived some of those days when he received his introduction to aviation through model aircraft.

It sometimes seems like everybody has to collect something, and for Curry it’s model aircraft radio control units from the past. Curry tells the fascinating story of how he got started with his collection, and it is quite a story. Curry’s oldest radio control unit dates back to 1937, and his collection shows a history during the 1970s and 1980s when advancements were occurring so quickly that radios were becoming obsolete almost before they reach the market.

You’ll see all the radios on display in the video, and watch as Jim Campbell actually finds an exact duplicate of the radio that he first started using in his model aircraft when he was 12 years old.

Jim closes the interview by saying, “We can never really understand our future unless we treasure our past.” Seeing all this equipment on display does remind modelers of how far we have come.
