Blue Angels' Fat Albert Recovering From A Bird Strike

Replacement C-130 On Duty, But Not Performing

One of the first impressions airshow viewers get of the Navy's Blue Angels is of a distinctive C-130 making low passes and showing off the capabilities of the airplane at airshow center.

But for now, attendees will just have to settle for watching the jets.

Not that that is such a bad thing.

The reason is that the Blue Angels' C-130 ... known affectionately as Fat Albert … was damaged back in June by a bird strike, and it's been out of commission ever since, according to a report in the Pensacola News-Journal. The backup C-130, which has been dubbed "Eddie", is on loan from another Navy unit, and will continue to transport the team's support crew and equipment, but won't be flying in the shows.

Fat Albert's return to the airshow circuit is still ... up in the air (sorry). But the team says he'll be back and performing as soon as the maintenance crew says its safe to do so.

Get well soon, Albert.
