Saab Acquires Two Bombardier Global 6500 Aircraft

Proven Fixed-Wing Platform For Airborne Special Missions

Bombardier Defense announced at the Paris Air Show 2025 that its longtime partner Saab placed a firm order for two Bombardier Global 6500 aircraft to strengthen and modernize their defense capabilities in airborne special missions.

The Global 6500 is capable of flying faster, longer, and higher than older legacy airborne sensor aircraft, providing governments and militaries a significant advantage. Its top speed of Mach 0.90 and max range of 6,600 nm / 12,223 km enable the Global 6500 to achieve faster and farther operations. It is also certified for steep approaches and with its advanced wing design it is able to access more locations compared to its commercial predecessors.

Eric Martel, President and Chief Executive Officer of Bombardier said, “Through Bombardier Defense, the Global 6500 aircraft is the go-to strategic asset for governments around the world looking to modernize and strengthen their defense capabilities. Bombardier Global aircraft are ideally suited for the most demanding missions, with proven flexibility, reliability, power generation, range and ability to operate at high altitudes.”

Bombardier Defense has fielded a fleet of over 500 special mission aircraft with more than 3 million fleet flight hours, and has become a well-recognized provider of airborne solutions for critical missions. Its Global and Challenger families of aircraft offer solutions for most missions including humanitarian assistance, Head of State transportation, maritime patrol, search and rescue, and more.

Bombardier Defense furnishes a range of solutions from complete turnkey packages that include design, build, test, and certification activities to specialized engineering and technical oversight to provide customized equipment and services for specific mission requirements.
