One Fatality In Saratoga Downing Near PDK

Plane Came Down Shortly After Takeoff

ANN REALTIME REPORTING 09.23.08 1500 EDT: Aero-News has confirmed one fatality in the downing of a Piper PA-32-300 Saratoga north of Atlanta on Tuesday afternoon.

WSB-750 reports the aircraft had just taken off from DeKalb Peachtree Airport (PDK) when it crashed at approximately 2:00 pm. FAA spokeswoman Kathleen Bergen told The Associated Press the aircraft was en route to Coldwater, MI.

Reports from the scene state the plane crashed in a neighborhood near Interstate 285, about three miles from PDK. Wreckage can be seen in the yard of a home in the area.

An investigator with the NTSB told WSB a 'mayday' call was received from the accident aircraft just before the crash, and it appears the pilot was attempting to return to the airport.

The aircraft was registered to Women's Medicine, Inc., of Jacksonville, FL.

Aero-News will update this story as more details become available.
