Here It Is! Our April 1 Edition Is Back In Action For 2022… With A Twist

In Honor Of ANN's First Quarter-Century, Here Are Just A Few Of Our Best Classic April First Stories

A few weeks back, when we should have normally been starting the oft-hysterical brainstorming sessions that ultimately resulted in 40 or 50 story prospects that would then have been boiled down to two dozen actual topics, we came up with something of a harebrained but nonetheless novel idea… Which is appropriate when we are talking about our annual April 1st efforts.

As you all well know, with very few exceptions, we have celebrated April 1st with a bit of whimsy, more than a slight amount of insanity, while conjuring up an assortment of tongue-in-cheek crazy notions about the world of aviation. In other words, we make a whole lotta stuff up, take potshots at one and all, and have fun with aviation even when it is not likely to be aero-politically correct (and often get in a fair amount of trouble for it).

Since ANN celebrated its 27th anniversary last fall, and since we have embarked on new directions, with additional staff, new mission upgrades, and a tremendous amount of dedication now that we are seemly putting the pandemic behind us, ANN is ready to bring the house down. We can't think of a better way to do it than to celebrate our next quarter-century with some of the best stories from various April 1st editions throughout our history.

So… Here they come…

So, today we're re-publishing a number of our classic/craziest April 1st stories from throughout our history, making fun of a number of topics and people and planes and programs… Each pivotal to the bit of aviation history that was ongoing when the story was published.

We hope you have as much fun with these classic April 1st stories as we did in choosing them -- a session that turned out to be about as funny a recent evening as I can recall, doubled over in laughter, and shaking our heads at our own insanity from years past.

Have fun… We sure did.
