Paris Air Show 2005: Boeing Bowed By Killer Qatar Order

Qatar Airways Announces Order For 60 A350s

Qatar Airways Monday let the cat out of the bag -- a huge launch order for the Airbus A350 -- bitter rival to Boeing's new 787 Dreamliner.

The order, at retail, is worth $10.6 billion.

It's certainly not the way Boeing wanted to kick off its participation in the Paris Air Show, which got underway Monday. For months, the Chicago-based company has had "the big mo" -- a marked determination to overtake Airbus and regain the title of the world's best selling maker of commercial aircraft.

Qatar did throw Boeing a sizeable bone, however, placing an order for 20 new 777s worth about $4.6 billion at list price.

Airbus says it expects more than 100 A350 orders before the end of the week as it makes its big annoucements in Paris.
