Army Aviation Training Undergoes Historic Shift

Team CTI Awarded Part 141 Helicopter Flight School Pilot Program

Team CTI, a collaboration between Crew Training International and Helicopter Institute, announced the award of the U.S. Army FAA Part 141 Helicopter Flight School Pilot Program, signifying a major change in Army aviation training representing the first time civilian FAA-certified training has been integrated into the military training pipeline.

The program will be based in Marianna, Florida, and will utilize the military variant of the Robinson R-66 helicopter known as the TH-66 Sage. Students will be instructed in the FAA Part 141 curriculum to earn their Private Pilot, Rotorcraft Helicopter, and Instrument helicopter certifications. They will then transition into military flight training.

The goal of this approach is to enhance efficiency, improve the foundational skills, and optimize training resources.

Helicopter Institute has gained extensive experience from its successful execution of the U.S. Navy’s Contractor Operated Pilot Training-Rotary program that has revitalized military aviation training.

Randy Rowles, President of Helicopter Institute said, “We are honored to be part of this groundbreaking effort to modernize Army aviation training. Our experience with the Navy’s COPT-R program has proven the effectiveness of integrating civilian FAA-certified training into military flight education. This program will elevate the quality of Army rotary-wing training and streamline the transition to military helicopter operations.”

CTI has been providing advanced flight training to civilians and military for more than 30 years.

Matthew Black, President and CEO of CTI said, “Team CTI is committed to supporting the Army’s vision for the future of rotary-wing training. Our expertise, innovative training methods, and dedication to excellence will equip the next generation of Army aviators for success.”
