American Airlines Flight Diverted Due To Reclining Seat Row

Paris-Bound Passenger Dropped At Logan Airport

A passenger on a flight from Miami to Paris found himself the unwilling guest of the  U.S. Justice Department after he created a scene over a reclining seat.

The passenger was 60-year-old Edmund Alexandre of Paris. USA Today reports that he had to be subdued and handcuffed by the flight crew after he objected, rather vociferously, to the passenger in front of him reclining her seat. He reportedly grabbed a flight attendant, who tried to calm him down, but he eventually had to be restrained by the crew.

The flight was diverted to Boston Logan International Airport, where Alexandre was taken into custody and charged with interfering with a flight crew. The charge can carry a 20-year prison term. He was taken to a hospital for treatment of high blood pressure and diabetes, according to federal prosecutors. He he was arraigned at the hospital.

It is the second time this week that such an argument has occurred on an airplane. On Sunday, a United flight from Newark to Denver made an unscheduled landing in Chicago after one passenger used a device that prevents the seat in front from reclining. No one was arrested in that incident. TSA said it was a "customer service issue."
