Horton HX-2 Debuts At AERO-Friedrichshafen

Sport Aircraft Resembles Jet-Powered German Horten Ho 229 Designed During WWII

A prototype of the Horton HX-2 made its public debut at AERO-Friedrichshafen last week.

The aircraft is a "flying wing" design that was originally conceived as a jet fighter-bomber by the Germans towards the end of WWII. It is sometimes referred to as "Hitler's stealth fighter", according to a report from CNN.

The prototype, based on the original design by Reimar Horten, incorporates a blended-wing both technology comprised of carbon/glass-fiber materials. It is powered by a Rotax 912 engine turning a pusher propeller. It carries a little more than 60 gallons of fuel in two tanks.

Horton reportedly plans both unmanned and multi-seat variants of the airplane.
