Tanis and Reiff Join List Of Offerings

Hartzell Propeller announced new additions to its preheating product line for general aviation customers. The company now has available preheating kits from Tanis Aircraft Products and Reiff Preheat Systems.

The Tanis system provides engine preheating with heated bolts and silicone pads. The Reiff kit uses heated coils and aluminum pads to heat the engine and oil sump. Both products are available for a broad range of 4- and 6-cylinder Lycoming, Continental, and Rotax engines. The Tanis systems are also available for helicopter and turboprop aircraft. The designs of the two systems are noticeably distinct and offer customers a choice of installation methods and heating element technologies.

Engine preheating is generally recommended whenever the engine has been cold-soaked to temperatures at or below freezing. However , different aircraft engine manufacturers offer specific recommendations for when preheating is advised as well as proper procedures. For example, Lycoming engines should be preheated when the engine temperature drops to 10o F for two or more hours, while Continental engines require preheating when the engine has been exposed to temperatures below 20o F for two or more hours. Since the minimum starting temperature varies among aircraft engines, we recommend checking the documentation for your engine/aircraft manufacturer’s requirements.
