Airbus Finds Euro Distributor for Uncrewed Cargo Glider

Silent Arrow to Manufactured, Sold, and Supported by Trio of Partners

Airbus will begin offering its GD-2000 heavy cargo delivery drone to the European market with the help of MEL Aviation and Yates Electrospace Corporation, which will be doing business as Silent Arrow.

The Memorandum of Understanding will see the trio manufacture, distribute and support the UAS platform to a range of all the usual clients throughout the military and institutional sectors, where the 1-ton precision cargo glider can prove most useful. While the combative applications are fairly apparent at the outset - a drone that can deliver a couple thousand pounds of payload quietly, coolly, and autonomously doesn't need a hard sale - the public sector application may prove tougher. Humanitarian aid organizations are on the list, too, given Silent Arrow's ability to haul anywhere from 350 to 1,500 lbs of supplies.

The new corporate face of the Silent Arrow brand has granted an exclusive license to MEL Aviation to manufacture the GD-2000 and its spare parts for both the UK and EU markets. They will offer all 3 sizes of the aircraft, allowing for more "right-sized" purchases in their new market. Airbus will still provide sales, marketing and after-sales support, particularly refurbishment prior to redeployment.

“We are thrilled to take our collaboration with MEL Aviation to the next level with Airbus joining the team to build and lead the service business for Silent Arrow across Europe,” said Chip Yates, Silent Arrow’s Founder and CEO. “The Airbus A400M is the perfect platform for deploying numerous Silent Arrows in tactical resupply, electronic warfare or humanitarian and disaster relief operations and we look forward to achieving A400M certification as part of this exciting program.”
