Four Fatally Injured In Alaska Accident

Plane Went Down On Goat Mountain Near Eagle Glacier

A Piper PA-22 Tri-Pacer went down Sunay outside Girdwood, AK, resulting in the fatal injury of all four people on board.

The FAA accident database indicates the plane went down shortly after takeoff under unknown circumstances. It was destroyed by the impact and post-impact fire.

The airplane was registered to Karl Erickson of Girdwood, AK. Its most recent airworthiness certificate was issued in September of 2015, and was valid through September 2021.

The accident occurred at about 5:18 p.m. local time. The Anchorage Daily News reports that the Tri-Pacer impacted terrain on Goat Mountain near Eagle Glacier at an elevation of about 5,000 feet, according to an email from Alaska State Troopers spokesman Ken Marsh. An Alaska National Guard Pave Hawk helicopter was dispatched to the accident scene, and the helicopter crew reported "there were no survivors."

Alaska State Troopers and the NTSB traveled to the accident scene on Monday to assess the terrain and work on a plan to recover the victims and the wreckage.

The Anchorage Daily News reports that, according to an NTSB database, 25 people have been fatally injured in 11 accidents in Alaska so far this year.
