Government Shutdown Continues – NATA On Hand to Help

Offers Resources To Help Owners And Operators Navigate The Situation

As 2019 gets underway, all eyes are on Washington and what the Administration and the new Congress will do to end the government shutdown.

The 116th Congress will gavel in on Thursday where House Democrats will propose a plan to fund the Department of Homeland Security through February 8th and the other unfunded departments, including the Department of Transportation, for the rest of the fiscal year through September 30th. It is expected that Republicans and President Trump will not support the proposal.

The stalemate is over funding for President Trump’s border wall, and Democrats and Republicans refuse to budge from their positions of the morality of, and amount for, the wall. Until a resolution is reached and funding is provided to the seven unfunded departments, other legislative priorities like infrastructure are put on hold.

As NATA President Gary Dempsey noted to the membership when the shutdown took effect, air traffic services, the collection of aviation taxes, and the FAA’s aircraft registration activities remain active. However, activities including the issuance of airmen certificates and facility security inspections are stopped. NATA legislative and regulatory staff are on hand to answer any questions you have during the shutdown.

NATA will continue to update the public as events warrant.
